AVI for Universities - University Parking
Summary
DURHAM, NC – Duke University chose TagMaster North America, the leading provider of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) systems for AVI (Automatic Vehicle Identification), in partnership with T2 systems, to implement a campus-wide automated parking system.
Challenge
Duke University wanted an automated parking solution to manage parking access and revenue control, permits, enforcement, and event parking, all contained within one secure and reliable system.
Solution
TagMaster deployed 154 XT-3 Long-Range Readers to allow for quick, hands-free vehicle access for students, faculty, and staff at more than fifty university parking areas. Drivers with TagMaster AVI hang tags no longer have to stop their vehicles in order to use a proximity card or keypad. Each TagMaster Reader identifies a vehicle as it approaches a gate, where its identity is verified, triggering the gate to open for valid users and denying access to anyone not permitted to park in that lot or garage.
Conclusion
By gathering accurate usage data in its many lots and garages, Parking and Transportation Services at Duke are better able to allocate university resources to implement future development and parking options. Furthermore, students, faculty, and staff now know that they have a guaranteed spot that will not be taken by an unauthorized user, thus increasing overall satisfaction with Duke’s parking system.
