Summary

BUFFALO, NY – The ambitious rebuild program of Buffalo’s Metro Railcar system required a more streamlined platform for managing its trains. TagMaster North America, the world leader in RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), was pleased to take on this new challenge.

Challenge

The Metro system required information such as train location to be updated in real time, both for the onboard passenger information system and for Between Car Barriers, which need to be activated when approaching a station. Reliability of the RFID was a crucial factor in choosing which system to utilize, especially since trains can change direction on track sections according to varying route schedules, as well as travel on single track sections.

Solution

TagMaster North America deployed its HD (Heavy Duty) Readers along with S1456 HDS Tags to address this challenge. The Readers were mounted directly onboard trains to provide real-time information updates. TagMaster’s HDS Tags are field programmable, which allowed the specific Tag location to be programmed at the time of installation as required by the site integration team.
