Long-Range RFID 101

Long-Range Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is one of the most familiar and standardized technology solutions on the security and vehicle access control market today. You have probably heard of “RFID,” but you might ask, what exactly is RFID?

All RFID is not created equal, there a wide range of operational frequencies and applications RFID is used for. The technology itself is based on wireless identification using electromagnetic fields to identify tags, which are mounted onto vehicles.  Every RFID system is composed of 3 components: reader, antenna and tag.

TagMaster NA RFID technology utilizing UHF and Microwave frequencies, offers an ‘all-in-one’ solution with the reader, antenna and processing in one weatherproof housing and a diverse family of tags to choose from.

Why AVI?

Most accurate and reliable. monthly and contract parker technology. 99.99%

Maximized throughput and lane availability.

Extremely easy to maintain, once the customer has tag and the readers are installed there is nothing else to maintain, download, readjust.

Reduced human intervention, time, job allocation for managing monthly parkers.

Long-Range RFID sometimes also referred to as “AVI” (Automated Vehicle Identification) offers quick, easy and highly secure vehicle access control. With an accuracy of nearly 100% it ensures the highest throughput speed and highest accuracy.

TagMaster NA offers two distinct platforms of RFID both UHF (Ultra High Frequency) and Microwave.  The electromagnetic energy put out by the readers looks different for each frequency as seen below:

The UHF frequency operating on 902-928MHz offers a cost effective solution utilizing passive (battery free) tags that utilize the readers electromagnetic energy to ‘wake up’ the integrated circuit inside the tag to send the tag ID information back to the reader to grant or deny access based on the database preferences set by the users. TagMaster UHF uniquely offers high adjustability of the read lobe, as seen above the omni-directionality of the read lobe makes adjusting the read lobe settings extremely important for optimized performance. Our squelch feature is highly customizable and suppresses tag reads outside of the defined area shown in grey which mitages the need for additional space between readers.  Additionally by eliminating cross talk between readers it ensures the wrong barrier getting triggered does not happen.  With TMNA, the UHF technology solutions we offer allow for a high performance solution equal to a semi-active tag like Microwave.

The Microwave frequency operating on 2.45GHz offers a highly defined and directional read lobe. The microwave semi-active tags contain a battery that keeps the integrated circuit awake at all times and ensuring an immediate and secure read between the reader and the tag. The tags have an expected lifespan for up to 5 years allowing for budget planning and allocation for tag fulfillment.

Each frequency has it’s own set of unique benefits for each individual project, our knowledgeable sales and support teams will be glad to answer any questions you may have.
