When it comes to license plates, the USA is incredibly diverse. Each US state has its unique license plate with distinct design features, fonts styles, colors, templates, and more. Often times state flags, slogans, names, or images will be embedded into the license plate, or having “stacked characters” added to the rest of the plate information. TagMaster NA’s innovative CT-45 LPR camera is able to accurately read stacked characters on license plates throughout the USA.

Most of our license plates regularly issued for non-commercial passenger vehicles usually have 5-7 characters while vanity plates or specialty plates can have up to 8 characters.
Stacked characters can sometimes be issued to represent things like: wildlife preservation, military service, and etc.
Some license plates have some of its characters placed on each other vertically while the remaining characters are arranged horizontally. These stacked characters can be on the left side or the right side of the plate, but are generally found stacked on the left hand side of the license plate.
Although the stacked characters are notoriously difficult for LPR to recognize and read, TagMaster LPR takes it to another level. Our highly intelligent onboard processing and OCR engine has the capability to not only recognize stacked character plates, but with a simple toggle button on the convenient web-based UI you can choose to read these stacked characters, or you can select to ignore them.
